A CGTP-IN enviou à Confederação Sindical Internacional (CSI) uma mensagem (anexa) de solidariedade, por ocasião do 5º Dia Mundial do Trabalho Digno, que esta Confederação promoveu no dia 7 de Outubro de 2012.
ITUC 7 October World Day
Dear Comrades,
The International Trade Union Confederation promotes, on October 7th 2012, the 5th World Day for Decent Work, which is this year addressing in particular the demand for stronger government action for economic recovery, job creation for young people, decent working conditions and full respect for workers’ rights.
The World Day is taking place in a context of the profound crisis of the capitalist system, which is leading to a deep civilisation regression, with terrible consequences in terms of the economy and society, particularly hitting workers and peoples’ rights and gains.

In Portugal, violently attacked in its sovereignty by a brutal programme of aggression, imposed by the “troika” and the government (similar to what is happening in Greece, Ireland and Spain) the CGTP-IN organises a tenacious combat in defence of the workers and people’s living and working conditions. Last Saturday, 29th September, the CGTP-IN organised one of the largest demonstrations in its history and will hold a General Strike on November 14th. Also this week, the CGTP-IN is conducting a National March against Unemployment and for Employment that will finish in Lisbon, on October 13th.
Together with the growing struggle of the masses, the CGTP-IN puts forward alternatives for economic growth, job creation and a new path for Portugal and for Europe, for a future of social justice and development in favour of the workers and people. A crucial point of our alternative proposals is the taxation of capital.
Concerning the main theme of the ITUC 5th World Day, we are paying a particular attention and persistently fighting for job creation for young people. In fact, as a result of the neoliberal policies pursued by successive governments and more specifically with the adjustment programme imposed by the “Troika”, and violently carried out by the present government, young workers and people are those more seriously hit by soaring unemployment (36.4% youth unemployment) and job precariousness (3rd highest in the EU)
Dear Colleagues,
The CGTP-IN supports this 5th ITUC WDDW, reaffirming that we are fully committed to the workers struggle, at national, European and international level, in defence of workers and people’s rights and interests.
It is increasingly necessary and urgent to organise converging actions of the international trade union movement, against exploitation, for workers and people’s rights, interests and emancipation.
